THE FRAILTY OF SIMONS EXPERIENCE

“And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.”
Luke 5:5 KJV
Today, meet Simon a professional fisherman, whose vast understanding of the Sea of Galilee, the routine and sleeping pattern of the fish, and the frequency of the night tide was evident in his conversation with Jesus Christ.
Imagine his conversation with Jesus, and more so, what he was probably telling himself (those familiar mind conversations).
Master, we have done it all. We have put our experience to the full test. My team and I are used to this kind of situation. This is our terrain. We know the signs, we understand from our long history and connection with this sea, that when this sort of thing happens, it means we need to call it a day. We need to go home. Master, there is no need anymore. Moreover, the fish have moved on. They aren’t around. There is no need for us to put in any further effort. Let us suspend any further attempt and try again some other time.
Either as spoken words or thoughts, do these words sound familiar? Can you honestly relate to this conversation? If your answer is yes, then God is calling your attention to His word today. Even if you cannot relate to the words and thoughts of Simon the fisherman, know this for sure…
Experience is good to have, knowledge and skill remain priceless in our world today. But the instructor in the conversation makes the difference.
Who was Simon responding to? Who was he sharing his experience and skill with? Who was he having this verbal or mental conversation with? His colleague? His friend? His apprentice? His fishing boss (line manager)? Or was it The Maker of heaven and earth?
The bible tells us that he was responding to his master’s instruction. Jesus Christ was his master.
Jesus Christ remains the Lord of all. He is the master of the universe. The creator of heaven and earth.
So, dealing with men is different from dealing with God. When dealing with Jesus, human experience becomes frail and insignificant as can be seen in the concluding part of Simons encounter with Jesus that night.
The bible says in Luke 5:6-7 (KJV)
And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
Note that when walking with Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, He is more than able to create something out of nothing. He is able to overturn norms and create streams in dry and parched places. Jesus is almighty and all powerful. He is able to create, restore, transform and much more.
So, when faced with a difficult situation, check: what has God said about it? Whose instructions am I following? If you are following Gods instructions, most certainly, the fish will come.
Gods Word is more powerful than our experience, more potent than the words of specialists, more alive and active than a double-edged sword. If He has said it, the fish are coming. Get your net set!
Amen
God bless you.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to trust you more. I make a commitment today; to end the negative conversations and negative thoughts and I determine to fill my heart and my space with your word. I believe your Word and I agree that the fishes are coming. Amen.
